Be The Change You Want To See In The World

^Mahatma Gandhi

There is a new MTV show called If You Really Knew Me

It's about high school, and changing it.
It's about cliques, racism, sexism, homophobia and a lot more.
It's about secrets.
It's about finding out who other people are, even if they aren't in your group.
It's about breaking down walls.

So many people judge others unfairly. You see someone and automatically you think you know who they are.
But underneath there could be so much more. They could appear like they don't care what others think, when they obsess over it every night. They could appear like they're so happy and popular when they cry themselves to sleep. They could appear like they're total jerks when they really don't want to be mean, but are too scared to stand up.
I think we're all scared to show who we really are.
But I don't really understand that.
Is it embarrassing? Do you think you're alone in what you've dealt with?
Because you're not. And if we all figured that out, I think it would be a lot easier.
What would be easier?
Living.

That's your life that you're wasting with judgement.
So what you don't talk to this or that person? Are they any better than you? Worse than you?
No.
We are all humans. Breathing, feeling, living human beings.
We all get scared, we all get sad, we all can be angry.
But we also all can be happy, if we just tried to break down the walls we put up.

If you really knew me you'd know I wake up and fall asleep scared that my mom isn't going to be okay this time.
If you really knew me you'd know that I love my friends, but I hate the way they treat themselves.
If you really knew me you'd know that sometimes I say I'm busy when I'm really not because I can't put on a smile for someone.
If you really knew me you'd know that music and singing is what makes me most happy and sad at the same time.
If you really knew me you'd know that above all I want to fall in love.

lots of acceptance,

What's a name
When in the darkness we all look the same
Holding candles looking for the flame
For the fire to chase the night away
As we wait for daylight to break

What is life kept to ourselves
Careful words composed
It's a book upon the shelf
The story never told

We are friends
Chasing photos of our happier days
Clinging to the ones they can't erase
Going on to find the perfect place
Where we can love eachother
We can find eachother
We can shape the world again
